Have you been endlessly scrolling nights on end thinking hard about buying a new laptop?

I’ve also had long nights in this situation, and my search always comes down to two top contenders: Lenovo vs HP laptops.

Which one is better? To end those long nights and frustration once and for all, I’ve come up with a complete matchup between the two.

The search begins below!

My Laptop Checklist

HP VS LENOVO LAPTOP: FIND THE RIGHT ONE FOR YOU

Now let’s make one thing clear. I find laptop buying to be an extremely serious business.

And why shouldn’t it be when it means spending my hard-earned money on something…

a.) I’ll use every day

b.) I’ll use for a really long time

What factors do I look for in a great laptop, you ask?

  1. Value for Price
  2. Storage Capacity
  3. Security
  4. Design and Performance
  5. Gaming Laptops
  6. Laptop Reliability and Support

Before we jump right into the specifics, let me fill you in on the important scoop of Lenovo and HP…

The American brand HP (which stands for Hewlett Packard) is known for their high-quality laptops with impressive graphics.

They also sell a wider array of gadgets such as printers, calculators, and scanners.

Lenovo laptops excel in their amazing design features at reasonable prices.

The Lenovo Thinkpad is their most popular series and is a top rival against many laptop brands on the market.

… Now onto my list

Price

Value. For. Budget.

This is what I’m talking about when I reviewed the prices of my potential Lenovo and HP laptop.

Who says budget laptops lag in the race?

Many Lenovo and HP basic laptops today are able to provide wonderful digital experiences at a fraction of a cost.

The entry-level laptops of Lenovo can begin at $118 (like Lenovo Thinkpad 11e Chromebook). That is already one of the cheapest in the market. Add powerful features to this amazing cost – I don’t think any other brand comes close.

Some of HP’s budget laptops begin at $144.00 (take the tiny but mighty HP Chromebook 11 or HP Stream 14). They also market the HP Envy and HP Stream series as high-performing models sold at affordable prices.

The Winner: Lenovo

When it comes to the Lenovo vs HP laptop price category, our obvious winner is Lenovo.

The reason why HP laptops tend to be more expensive than Lenovo laptops comes down to HP’s overall branding.

But if I can get the same benefits at a cheaper price, I would run to Lenovo right away. Why?

Because. Every. Dollar. Counts!

Storage Capacity

How could I resist deleting a hundred pictures of my dog wearing her birthday dress? I just can’t do it!

This is where the power of large storage capacity comes in for me. I don’t want to worry about mass deleting all these precious memories.

Even worse, I don’t want a laptop that slows down on me just because I have many important things to keep in it.

Across HP’s range of consumer laptops, the HP Pavilion (like the HP Pavilion x360 2-in-1 model) line is said to provide adequate storage on their business laptops.

But it’s really in HP’s Omen line of gaming laptops you get to see the merits of this feature. We mean the astounding 1TB storage on these machines!

1 TB of storage is equivalent to:

  • 17,000 hours of music
  • 100 Full HD movies
  • 20,400 pictures!

Lenovo is the best laptop for professionals because they release models that cater to their specific needs.

Let’s take one of their best business laptops for example. While superb in its performance, the Thinkpad X1 only holds a total capacity of 256 GB.

The Winner: HP

In the Lenovo vs HP match, HP is the divine choice for supreme storage.

While HP laptops generally tend to be more expensive, the value I get for a huge storage capacity justifies its prices.

That’s not to say that Lenovo laptops fare poorly in the face-off of the two brands. I can proudly say Lenovo’s storage can hold just enough of my data.

I guess you could say I prefer more!

Security

Let me take a wild guess by saying there’s a tape over your webcam right now.

Yes? Yes!

That’s because we all fear being watched over the internet without permission!

To protect us, Lenovo computers come equipped with several features to boost protection. That goes from having the fingerprint reader to the ever useful Kensington lock slot.

I like the Human Presence Detection feature [R], which is essentially the intuitive device that can automatically lock your laptop screen when it is not in use.

That’s ideal security for when you leave your computer unattended in public places.

Hoping over to an HP laptop: There are two [R] key features found in many of their consumer laptops .

One of these is the HP Sure View Integrated Privacy Screen. This feature can turn your screen white to protect yourself from side onlookers waiting to read private information on your screen.

At a 45-degree angle view, it would be impossible to view anything on your laptop!

You also won’t have to worry about unwanted internet spying with the Webcam Kill Switch feature.

The Winner: It’s a Tie

I love how the two brands addressed many constant threats to privacy, which naturally come with constant laptop use. (As it should be!)

With these features, I’m sure to feel safe, sound, and protected in my usage.

Design and Performance

I want a laptop that can handle both my creative and business needs. And I tell you I have a heavy lot.

Most efficient brands today should be selling laptops that run on at least an i5 processor and contain 8GB of RAM for it to be considered high-performing for use.

Thankfully both HP and Lenovo have this.

Innovation is a guarantee with the HP Spectre Folio. I give huge praises to HP’s line of 2-in-1 laptops which can easily transform your device from laptop mode to tablet mode in an instant.

That’s a shoutout to the amazing HP Spectre x360 (which runs on a Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, and 16.30 hours [R] of battery life) -perfect for the multitasker in me.

Head-to-head in this Lenovo vs HP performance face-off, I introduce you to the Lenovo Yoga ThinkPad X1 Gen 6.

Powered by an 8 GB LPDDR4X 4266MHz RAM and 11th Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5-1135G7 Processor, it boasts a 16-hour battery life neatly packed with the Intel Evo certification.

What do those long words mean exactly?

Let’s keep it short and say that the processing power on these great laptops is great for all your needs and even more. Want a more detailed explanation? Check it out here.

The Winner: HP

When we’re down to the Lenovo vs HP fight on Design and Performance, I must say it’s such a close call.

But! I must hand it over to HP because I value durability for the longer haul.

Gaming Laptops

I want to get as immersive and lifelike as I can get in my games – from my car chases or character battles.

That’s exactly why I look for laptops with impressive screens and fresh sound quality. Top that of course with long battery life and smooth performance all throughout.

The Legion laptops are Lenovo’s top-quality answer to their large gaming clientele. Their high-end gaming laptop Lenovo Legion Y740 runs on the i7 processor at 16 GB RAM.

Cool because that means you can play FIFA or GTA at full settings! That’s not something I can get with a cheaper gaming laptop.

What sets my excitement further is HP’s Omen series –their line of high-performing gaming laptops.

With the HP Omen 15 model, I can experience my games on an amazing HD screen, with an Intel Core i7, and 8GB RAM.

It also runs on 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD storage capacity.

That’s more than enough storage to comfortably run your gaming, streaming (and even video editing) needs!

The Winner: HP

HP vs Lenovo for gaming laptops, which is better?

I must say HP gaming laptops strike as the better bet between the two.

  • If you’re willing to shell out more, HP can give the best gaming laptop- with incredible versatility (you can even use it as a business laptop!), storage, graphics, and performance to boot.
  • If you’re not yet ready to take the big leap, Lenovo is still a terrific second choice for a great gaming laptop.

Laptop Reliability and Support

I am by no means a tech nerd, which is why I always ask so many questions.

Having access to a support staff that caters to my questions matters to me and I’m happy because both brands have well-established lines for reach.

Lenovo has support lines via telephones, chats, forums, and website FAQs. The Lenovo warranty also covers a period of 12 months (varies per device), and may sometimes cover service shipping costs.

The HP customer service is reachable via chat services, social media, and even community forums.

They cover 12 months of warranty and can shoulder the shipping costs of your serviced devices (excluding cheaper models).

The Winner: Lenovo

Both HP and Lenovo have accessible support channels, but I must give this one to Lenovo.

HP tends to lag a bit behind the impeccable services offered by Lenovo and are at times known for their long phone waiting lines.

HP is known for creating robust models like the HP Chromebooks 14.

But when I’m on the run for high-performing cheaper models, Lenovo is my choice. For a wider selection, the Lenovo ideapad laptops are perfect for supersavers and students alike.

Are You a Minimalist

A minimalist values straightforward, no fuss, and “just the basics” user experience. This is why I recommend a premium Chromebook for you!

Most Chromebooks come with either the Celeron processor or AMD processor, which equates to a powerful device, minus the bulk.

With that said, I’m putting the HP Chromebook x360 down on my list of great convertible laptops.

It retails about twice more than the Lenovo model I mentioned above for supersavers and jetsetters.

It has mind-blowing features – such as a high-performing processor, wide storage capacity, astounding memory, and great battery life.

This business laptop is optimized with its optional 5G connectivity (aside from the already great memory, storage, and processor).

That’s convenience on the go!

Instantly turn it into a creative gadget with its handy Lenovo Integrated Pen, powered by the Wacom AES technology.

It might be expensive. But with the features built into this thing, why not giving it a yes?

If this doesn’t fit your bill, the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5 laptop takes your fill on all your heavy-duty creative needs, without sacrificing the features necessary for an efficient business laptop.

It’s lightweight (perfect for bringing around school), fast charging, and lets you take the touch screen route. That’s all with a phenomenal LCD display and cool keyboards.

However, it does not top the competition when it comes to the fast performance department.

This is where the HP Omen line tops my list. At its affordable price, overall astounding CPU performance, and impressive screen – they are the most reliable even when I’m playing graphic intense games.

The Lenovo Legion line comes in as a strong second with its undeniably amazing line of gaming laptops.

Powered by its strong processors and Nvidia graphics chips, lights turn green for an entertaining night ahead. That being said, some Lenovo legions models may tend to run hot over a long period of gaming time.

Who Takes the Win

Before I spill my answer, let’s set the records straight.

I have huge praises for these top brands.

Both Lenovo and HP are at the top of their game and they make impressive models each time around.

The great thing about these laptops is even on a limited spending allowance, I’m sure to experience a smooth digital experience all throughout. But when I do purge my bucks on these machines….

Man, I am pampered with incredible features and stylish-looking designs.

With that said, I ask myself, “What will I use my laptop for?”

As an entrepreneur on a tight budget, I love the features of the Lenovo Ideapad series. The features found here exactly fit my needs in accomplishing all my business tasks efficiently.

But on the other end, I like playing my games on nights on end. For that, I want one of the HP Omen laptops. No other questions asked.

Allow me to streamline the two brands for you as well.
