page title icon Best Gaming Mouse for League of Legends 2024 – One Clear Winner

| Updated on March 24, 2022

If you’ve never played League of Legends (LoL) then you are missing out.

I had played the game before, and had seriously enjoyed doing so. But for these reviews I was required to put in far more hours of play than I had previously.

And boy, did I have fun.

The game is brilliant, it’s kind of very loosely based on Warcraft 3, which I absolutely loved playing in my younger days, and is probably still my favorite strategy game of all time.

In it, you take control of a hero and with your team, try and destroy the other team’s ‘nexus’ (kind of their power source I guess).

You can collect experience, unlock abilities and purchase items. While killing off the enemy heroes and destroying their minions too.

The game is just sensationally good.

The whole point of me playing so much League of Legends, was so that I could review a number of different gaming mice.

And let me tell ya, I tested the heck out of all of these mice and loved every second of it. And we came out with a clear winner.

After putting in some serious hours playing, and talking to some hard core League of Legends players we know, we decided that the best Gaming Mouse for League of Legends is the Logitech G900.

It combines comfort with fast and accurate tracking. It’s also got some great customization options, which can really make the difference during high-paced games.

In this article we’ll go into detail about why we thought the Logitech was so good. And we’ll also talk about some of the other mice we got the chance the chance to play with as well.

Quick Summary:

Here is a quick summary of our top picks for league of Legends for those that want to jump in and check out the highest performing options.

Keep in mind there is a clear winner, it’s the G900, it’s performance was the best of any mouse that I have ever used for any of my gaming.

How we chose the Best Gaming Mouse for League of Legends

Although I can say now that I’ve put in quite a few hours of play on League of Legends, I wouldn’t call myself an experienced player by any means, getting to a high of Platinum 3.

With that in mind, I didn’t really consider myself qualified to talk about the kind of qualities that a gaming mouse specifically for League of Legends would need, because I just haven’t put in enough play time.

In order to solve this problem, we got in contact with some gamers we know who are far more serious League of Legends players than I’ll ever be.

We wanted to know, what did they think were important features in a gaming mouse? And what features did they think would be most important for League of Legends?

After receiving a ton of feedback, we were able to come up with the following list of features, they are ranked in order of importance to our gamers:

  • Responsiveness
  • Customizability
  • Comfort
  • Price
  • Look

We determined this final list by finding all the best gaming mice that fit into the above categories.

We then ordered them into the office and then started playing League of Legends on them. Just to see how well they played.

Our top 5 is made up of the mice that performed the best throughout our gaming and testing.

The five Best Gaming Mice for League of Legends

Here’s a list of the five Best Gaming Mice for League of Legends:

The most important consideration when choosing the Best Gaming Mouse for League of Legends is responsiveness

When playing League of Legends, you’re using your mouse constantly, whether that be to select items, target enemies, or choose abilities. Your mouse will literally be in constant use.

So it’s so important that your mouse is responsive.

What exactly responsiveness is, is up for debate.

Many people take it to mean ‘sensitivity’, but this is actually incorrect.

Responsiveness is made up of a bunch of different factors that affect how well you can play on the mouse.

For instance, a responsive mouse needs to glide effortlessly over your mouse mat, without catching or slowing down at any point. With most modern mice this is no longer an issue, but older mice which used the ‘rolling-ball’ technology would often catch or slow down.

This wouldn’t be a massive deal if you were just editing spreadsheets or something. You’d just pick the mouse up, loosen the ball, and then continue.

But on League of Legends, a couple of seconds at the wrong moment can easily mean a dead hero.

So it’s very important that any mouse you use for gaming glides smoothly.

Responsiveness is also to do with how accurately your cursor on-screen represents the movements you’re making with your mouse.

Some mice just don’t do a very good job here.

Often low quality mice can be extremely inaccurate, make the same movement twice – and they’ll give you a different result each time.

Once again, this isn’t such an issue if you’re just doing office work. Because you’re probably not going to be moving the mouse about that quickly anyway.

But in gaming, if you quickly move your cursor onto your target, left click, and you’re just an inch off, then you’ve just clicked on the ground rather than your opponent.

Added up over hundreds of games, this can make a massive difference to your results.

Finally, responsiveness is also to do with how quickly your mouse relays your commands back to your computer and your actions appear on screen.

This is another feature that is absolutely crucial when gaming, and traditionally why the best gaming mice have always been wired. Because wireless mice have longer response times.

Nowadays, wireless mice have begun to catch up to their wired counterparts in terms of response times.

But they’ve still got a way to go.

So we haven’t included any wireless mice in our final 5, because they just weren’t quick enough.

Other considerations when choosing the Best Gaming Mouse for League of Legends

Customization

By customization, I’m not talking about customizing the look of your mouse. Although a lot of people do like to do that.

What I’m talking about is having programmable buttons on your mouse that you can use specifically for certain commands.

For instance, some heroes in League of Legends have damage causing abilities. You can use these to kill the enemy heroes if they’re low on health.

But there’s not a massive point in using them until they are, because you’ll use the spell on them, and then they’ll simply run away and take a heal potion.

The most important thing when using these abilities, then, is the timing.

Your opponents won’t make this easy for you either.

Most of them will know what abilities your class of hero has. If your hero has a particularly damaging spell, they’ll know about it.

So when their hero’s health starts getting dangerously low, they’ll quickly retreat, and you’ll lose your opportunity for an easy kill.

This is why having a customizable mouse is such a big deal in League of Legends. You can program a button on your mouse to activate a particular ability.

That way, as soon as you press the button – BOOM! Your ability will be activated.

This is much quicker than going to your hero’s menu, selecting his ability and then selecting your opponent’s hero to target.

So, you can take advantage of those small openings, before your opponent notices their hero is in danger, to get crucial, game-deciding kills.

All our experts said that the use of hotkeys was absolutely crucial to play League of Legends at a high level.

And a mouse with programmable buttons just makes this even easier.

Comfort

A seriously underrated feature of mice in general is comfort.

This is because the vast majority of mice are comfortable to use initially.

So we don’t really consider mouse comfort to be a big deal.

This is a serious mistake.

Nowadays, people are spending more and more time at their computers. Whether that be for work, or unwinding after with a bit of gaming, the average person probably spends more time using some sort of computer than they do sleeping.

All this means that your mouse is being used a lot.

Being in an uncomfortable position for all that time is potentially extremely damaging, so it’s so important that any mouse you use puts your hand in a comfortable and natural position.

When gaming, a more comfortable mouse will help because you’ll be able to play for longer periods without taking breaks to rest your hand.

This is particularly important during tournaments, or competitive play when you have to game to a strict schedule.

We did find comfort a little harder to test than some of the other features we look at here.

Because something that’s comfortable to use at the beginning isn’t necessarily comfortable to use after a couple of hours.

Equally people have different sizes of hand, and different styles of holding a mouse.

Therefore what is comfortable for one may not be comfortable for another.

We solved this difficulty by having each of us use each mouse for a long time non-stop. Without breaks any small problems with the comfort of the mouse became obvious, and we discarded any that hurt our hands.

We also asked our gamers if there were any mice that were known for being particularly comfortable (or not).

We figured that these are people with thousands of hours of PC gaming experience, so if anyone would know what was comfortable and what wasn’t, it would be them.

We also got rid of a few mice this way.

All those that made it into our top 5 are extremely comfortable.

Look

Considering we were talking to competitive gamers, it’s hardly surprising that they considered the aesthetic of whatever mouse they were using to be extremely important.

As a group, they preferred dark colors and jagged edges.

So we made sure that all our recommended mice had that kind of look.

Price

Price was a mixed consideration.

Some of the gamers advocated paying top dollar to get the best model possible.

They reasoned that if you were going to be spending so much time gaming, then you may as well pay a little more and get the best mouse you could.

Others thought that most of the absolute most expensive models were a rip-off. And didn’t really offer much in the way of benefit over cheaper alternatives.

We went somewhere down the middle.

We decided we wouldn’t penalize a mouse for being expensive, but we wouldn’t include expensive ones just for the sake of it either.

In order to judge the mice accurately without even thinking of price, we actually tested them before we knew how expensive each one was.

That way, our impressions weren’t swayed by an impressive price tag.

When the prices were revealed, the results were quite surprising.

Although we’ve included some expensive models on this list, none of them made it to number 1.

So it just goes to show that the most expensive isn’t always the best.

The Best Gaming Mouse for League of Legends is the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum

You can check it out on amazon by clicking here

Logitech M502 Proteus Gaming Mouse - Best Gaming Mouse for League of Legends

We looked at a lot of quality mice. And making a decision wasn’t easy.

But the Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum just about came out on top.

The model is extremely responsive, which we all loved.

This is the first thing you notice when you start playing, the G502 is extremely smooth and accurate. It slides smoothly over your gaming mat (or desk) and picking the areas you want to click is easy.

It’s also fast. With some mice (notably cordless models) there can sometimes be a noticeable delay between you performing an action and it actually appearing on screen. This was absolutely not the case with the Logitech.

It has a total of 11 fully customizable buttons. To be honest, we thought this was a bit of an overkill. I can’t personally imagine taking the time to program 11 buttons with all the commands I want.

But still, having the option is good and for those of you committed enough to program them all, it might offer you a serious playing advantage.

What impressed us particularly about the G502, was just how comfortable it is. It comes with textured grips on the side, which make using it extremely enjoyable/

Furthermore, it’s not just comfortable for using normally, but the customizable buttons are also easy to click and therefore using it with these is easy too.

This is where a lot of manufacturers mess up. They make sure that their mice are comfortable to use when only using the first two buttons. But they put the programmable ones in awkward positions that make it difficult to click them.

This poor design makes the programmable buttons difficult to use, and often creates more of a hindrance than a help/

Logitech avoided this pitfall. And that itself is very impressive, especially with 11 buttons!

The G502 is a good-looking mouse, coming in jet black with a glowing blue ‘G’ on the top. It’s spiky and looks a bit like the Batmobile.

If Batman was one hundredth of the size.

At the time of writing this was one of the cheaper mice that we looked at.

It’s definitely not super inexpensive or anything like that, but it’s very reasonably priced and in terms of value for money it’s phenomenal.

The four other Gaming Mice we tested

Razer DeathAdder Elite

Razer Deathadder Gaming Mouse

The DeathAdder was very nearly our number 1 pick and choosing between this and the Logitech was extremely difficult. It only just lost out.

Razer have produced an incredibly accurate and responsive product, there is no measurable delay whatsoever between moving the mouse and seeing the cursor shift on-screen. For gaming this is essential.

It also has 7 programmable buttons. This isn’t quite the 11 that the G502 offers, but for most gamers it’ll be more than enough.

When we were using the DeathAdder in the office, we gave it to a wide range of people to game with. Some of these people are tall, some are short, some have huge hands (like bunches of bananas) and others have little hands.

But all of them found using the DeathAdder intuitive and comfortable. Making a mouse that the vast majority of users find comfortable is far from easy. And Razer deserve to be congratulated for pulling it off with this model.

It doesn’t look bad, and I really like the glowing green emblem. But overall it’s not as handsome as the Logitech.

The price is typically similar to our number 1 model, so there was very little to separate the two.

But we did very slightly prefer the Logitech, so that just nicked the top spot.

Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum

Logitech G900 Chaos Gaming Mouse

This is another excellent option available from Logitech.

Like the previous two models we’ve looked at, this mouse is very responsive. Playing with it is smooth and easy, and the on-screen response time is phenomenal.

It also has 11 fully programmable buttons, just like the G502. Logitech must think their lucky number is 11 or something, but while having these buttons might seem a bit unnecessary, I’m sure there are some gamers who do make use of that many.

So for them having the option to, is essential.

Using it is extremely comfortable, and nobody who spent any time in the office with it had any complaints about pain while doing so.

So full marks for that.

We also thought it looked great, quite similar to the G502 but just a little more ridged.

Its only downside is its price, which is almost double that of the previous two models.

The question is, is it worth it?

Honestly…probably not.

It’s a brilliant mouse. But not really any better than either the Razer of the G502, so I don’t see much point picking it over either of them.

UtechSmart Venus

UtechSmart Venus Gaming Mouse

In a list filled with brilliant gaming mice, the Venus is another really phenomenal model.

It’s extremely responsive, tracks accurately, and is nice and comfortable too.

It also has an absolutely absurd 18(!!!) programmable buttons. Which will probably come in useful if you’re an octopus.

The best thing about the UtechSmart, is undoubtedly its price.

Where some of the models on this list retail for well over $100, this model can often be picked up for under $40.

Which is the kind of bargain you can normally only get at the point of a gun.

So if you’re on any kind of budget, save yourself a song and get the Venus.

You definitely won’t regret it.

Redragon M901 Perdition

Redragon M901 Perdition Gaming Mouse

We quite liked the Redragon Model. But the M901 was definitely our least favorite out of the 5 mice that made it onto our list.

It’s responsive and accurate, so there’s no complaints there.

We also thought it was pretty comfortable to use, although the mice we looked at previously were a little easier on our wrists.

What we weren’t sure about though, was the placement of all the M901’s extra buttons. Like the Venus it has a ridiculous 18 customizable ones.

But while on the Venus they seemed somewhat usable, on the Redragon they seemed a little cramped.

Just to experiment we tried to hit some of these hotkeys in-game, and just as often ended up activating a different one instead.

To be honest, this is still an excellent mouse. But it’s the worst of a brilliant bunch.

The bottom line

All the mice we looked at here were genuinely good. The Logitech G502 and the Razer were pretty much neck and neck, and the Venus model was sensational while being very cheap as well.

But, all things considered, the G502 just about came out on top.

Having said that, all these models are great, and whichever one you get will do a pretty brilliant job.
