Asus and Acer both make great laptops. In this battle of the brands, you will learn their differences and similarities, and find which one is best for you.

If you’re in the market for a new laptop, you’ve probably heard of Acer and Asus. They’re definitely popular and reliable laptop brands!

But which brand is SUPERIOR? After you read this article, you should be able to form your own opinions on which is the better laptop brand FOR YOU!

Join me in today’s comparison menu: Acer Vs. Asus. Read on to see how these two brands stack up against each other.

First Things First: What Type of Laptop Do You Need?

Asus vs Acer Laptop: Which Is the Better Laptop for Your Needs?
Feature: Asus; Acer

Acer and Asus have a WIDE VARIETY of laptops to choose from. They all have different specs, meant for different needs.

It’s difficult to choose any laptop if you don’t know first the type of laptop you need.

Basic Laptop

If you want a lightweight laptop with basic functionality, then you may want to look for a basic laptop.

This has the lowest specs needed, asyou can get away without a heavy RAM and processor. It’s an ideal choice for students on a budget who only need their laptops for essays and requirements.

Specs like 4GB of RAM and an Intel Core i3 processor should be enough for a basic Windows laptop.

If you don’t even need Windows, and simply use your browser for your everyday tasks, then getting a Chromebook is also a great choice for a budget laptop!

Unlike most laptops, these come with just Google Chrome, so if you don’t need any Windows apps, then this is a great choice for you, as they are fast and easy to use.

Chromebooks are also the SLIMMEST laptops you can get.

Creative Laptop

If your job entails a lot of creativity that includes video editing, photo editing, or illustration, then you need a laptop with higher specs.

You’ll want a laptop here with AT LEAST 8 GB of RAM. Though it would be best if you went up to 16 GB of RAM so you still have multitasking capabilities.

Gaming Laptop

Gaming laptops are POWER MONSTERS. If you need a powerful laptop, this is for you.

They have the highest specs among all the other types of laptops. There’s usually AT LEAST 16 GB of RAM with a Core i7 processor or something similar or higher.

They’re meant to run games smoothly, as games can be pretty power-hungry.

Because of the specs required for gaming laptops, they tend to cost more than other options. So while getting one seems like the best option for everyone, it is COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY for a BASIC USER.

Even a cheaper gaming laptop comes at a pretty hefty price!

If you’re a hardcore gamer though, you may want to consider desktop computers over laptops. This is because desktop PCs are more customizable, have higher specs, and are cheaper.

About Asus

They were founded in 1989 and are a Taiwanese brand. They are known as one of the best manufacturers of electronic devices.

In addition to selling laptops, they also sell tablets, monitors, keyboards, mice, motherboards, graphics cards, routers, headsets, and smartphones.

About Acer

Also a Taiwanese company, Acer was founded in 1976.

Acer laptops are said to be fast and smooth. They are also known as one of the best manufacturers of electronic devices.

Asus Laptops Vs. Acer Laptops: Best Laptops

One way to compare two brands is to compare their best products. So here are a few of their laptop models to look at!

Asus Chromebook Vs. No products found.

These ultra-slim and lightweight laptops come at an affordable price.

Both Asus Chromebook and Acer Chromebook have the same processor, Intel Celeron. Although this may seem like a weak processor, it is more than enough to run a Chromebook. They both come with 4 GB of RAM and the same 15.6″ screen.

  • The Asus Chromebook has a slightly better graphics card, while
  • The Acer Chromebook has a better screen resolution, with its full HD display

I would personally choose the Acer Chromebook for the screen resolution.

In addition, Acer’s Chromebook series is more budget-friendly than the Chromebooks that Asus sells. Acer Chromebooks are ultra-thin as well.

They both feature a backlit keyboard for easy typing in the dark.

The specs of the Asus ZenBook 14 are slightly higher, making it a faster laptop compared to the Acer Aspire 5.

Though it is important to note the Acer Aspire 5 comes at nearly HALF the price of the Asus ZenBook 14. So consider your budget when making your choice.

Acer Swift 5

The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo has an innovative design with two screens.

The smaller screen, located right above the keyboard is touchscreen, and it also comes with a touch pen. This is great for those who need their laptops for designing!

This comes with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. This means it is a very fast laptop, great for productivity, and strong enough to run all your design apps.

Now What About the Acer Swift 5?

The Acer Swift 5 has an Intel Core i7 quad-core processor. It comes with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, giving you a fast PC and a great laptop for everyday productivity and multitasking.

Although both models have the same processor and similar specifications, this matchup goes to Asus for its innovation.

Do note though that the Acer Swift 5 comes at less than half the price of the Asus ZenBook Pro Duo. So if you’re on a budget, then the Acer Swift 5 is a great option for you.

The processor for the Asus ROG Zephyrus 15  is an AMD Quad-Core Ryzen 7. It comes with 24GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, making this a monster at gaming and multitasking.

This dedicated gaming laptop comes with the specs needed for playing any game you want. It is great for productivity as well.

They also manufacture other gaming laptops with great specs. If you’re willing to splurge around $1000 more for a high-end gaming laptop, then the Asus ROG Hero III is also a great choice.

The Asus ROG Hero III comes with an Intel Core i7 processor with 16 GB of RAM and an Intelligent Cooling thermal system and anti-dust technology.

But Folks, Acer Predator is the Star!

The Acer Predator Triton 500 is the largest laptop out there as of now.

It comes with a 6-core processor, Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. This is more than enough for a gaming laptop. It has a humongous Full HD screen, making it highly attractive to visual people like myself.

It was hard to decide which of these gaming laptops was the winner, as both laptops offer great specs.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus 15 costs slightly less than the Acer Predator Triton 500, and buying a few adapters to hook it up to the TV would be a cheaper option to getting the Acer Predator Triton 500.

However, I will give this one to Acer since I personally prefer Acer’s humongous screen.

Acer Vs. Asus: A Closer Look

The topic of Acer Vs. Asus should be described in detail since there are certain specs you may want to take into consideration when deciding which laptop is a better fit for you.

So I split this portion into 7 categories, so we can take a closer look.

Design and Build

Asus has a wide range of designs. They’re coming up with laptops that are unique, while not skimping out on build quality.

The Asus design team is dedicated to innovation.  Their laptops also come in metal casings, specifically aluminum, making them MORE DURABLE.

Acer has more traditional designs, and you may find their laptops follow a certain aesthetic. Acer offers great build quality as well.

However, they are more inclined to use plastics in their build, with the exception of a few models such as the Acer Chromebook 13, which has an aluminum chassis and hinges.

Generally, the display features of both brands are matched, with few exceptions.

So in terms of design and build, ASUS takes the winning spot, for their innovation and durability.

Additionally, Asus also has the edge with cooling systems, as they come with a detachable liquid-cooling module for each laptop.

Though if your laptop doesn’t have this, it’s easy to keep your laptop cool with an external cooling pad.

Winner: Asus

Value for Money

Acer laptops come at great prices. Generally, they are a budget-friendly brand. However, some may argue that the price of their laptops isn’t justified by their specs.

Asus has a slightly higher price, however, the price of their laptops is more justified by their specs.

While Acer laptops are great for those with a limited budget, Asus is a better choice for those who can afford it.

Either way, they both make their laptops at a reasonable price, so in the end, you get what you pay for. And sometimes, EVEN MORE!

Winner: Asus

Components

Acer laptops frequently come equipped with dual-core processors. While this is decent for today, Asus laptops come with quad-core processors. In this aspect, Asus outshines Acer.

If all you need is a basic laptop, then any of these will do. But if you want to do heavier activities on your laptop such as video editing, photo editing, and gaming, you will need a higher-end processor.

They generally also have the same quality of display and screen size, with the exception of the Acer Predator, which has a massive 21-inch curved screen.

The components of Asus and Acer are generally similar other than the processor.

So they come pretty close in the race. But I will give this to Asus for incorporating a quad-core processor into all of their laptops, regardless of price range.

Winner: Asus

Reliability, Service, and Warranty

Both of these brands are very reliable. While they are both great, Asus has a better reputation when it comes to customer service.

However, while many may prefer Asus, Acer also has competitive warranties and competitive technical support services. You CAN’T GO WRONG with either of these.

Winner: Asus

Performance

Performance is hard to judge since both Acer and Asus have a wide variety of laptops to choose from.

Both brands offer great gaming PCs, productivity work laptops, and budget-friendly student models. All of which perform well for their price.

So it’s difficult to say which one outperforms the other.

Acer laptops have a wide range, but so do Asus laptops. So this one will have to be a tie.

Winner: Tie

Battery Life

Asus is known for its battery life.

Their laptops can get you to almost two full days with light usage. They have a high life cycle and power storage capacity. So if long battery life matters to you, Asus may be the brand for you.

Winner: Asus

Awards

Acer has received many awards over many years, the most recent one being the Red Dot Design Award in 2019.

They also received other awards from multiple product lines, which include the RGO, the Acer VGO, VL7 Ultra HD series, and the C2 series.

They were also awarded the iF Design award for its Swift 7, Predator Triton 700, Predator Orion 9000, Acer Aspire S 24, and Predator X27 and Holo 360.

Asus has also received several awards, mostly coming from the ROG gaming series.

Winner: Acer

So Which One Is for Me?

If you still haven’t found the winner of the Acer Vs. Asus debate, then here are some other things you may want to consider.

They both come with a good range to choose from, so consider the specs of the model you’re getting as well.

Still not sure which is the better brand for you? Here’s a summarized list to help you:

Choose an Asus Laptop If…

  • You want something that will last you a long time, Asus laptops are very durable.
  • You want higher specs.
  • You want more value for your money.
  • You have your heart set on an Asus laptop.

Choose an Acer Laptop If…

  • You want something lightweight and portable.
  • You have a tight budget.
  • Brand reputation is important to you.
  • You have your heart set on an Acer laptop.

Final Thoughts

Both Acer and Asus are very competitive brands in the laptop market. And to be honest, I love both of these brands. So the Acer Vs. Asus laptops topic is a highly subjective matter.

While Asus models do have an edge in some areas, let’s not forget that Acer is still an awesome company with durable and reliable quality laptops that have received numerous awards.

While looking at specs is a great way to choose a laptop, ultimately it depends on you and what your needs are to make that decision in the end.

If you can get a better deal with either brand, I say go for it! Both of them make great laptops, and I would be happy owning either one.

Hopefully, this article helped you to make a decision on what laptop to get!
